Default Button Flaws

Hi all,

I've four officer buttons to the 100th Foot, I've noticed they all appear to have similar flaws which I'm guessing was a result of the die (it appears are a raised line), has anyone seen this happening before? Also would in be unusual that all these buttons would be used on the same uniform?

Thanks,

Stephen

Hello Stephen

The type of flaw you mention is not uncommon, caused, apparently, when the die has developed a small crack under pressure, so it is not a fault of the original die-maker!

Obviously it's possible that all four of your buttons were used on the same uniform but I suspect that many were made with the flaw.

The 100th Foot button that I have (just the one, unfortunately!) is backmarked to 'W Jones & Co 236 Regent St London' and has no flaw. I assume your four buttons all have the same backmark, what is it may I ask?

Roger

Hi Roger,

Many thanks for your informative reply. The buttons have the backmark 'Firman & Sons London', the wear on each is similar and the person selling them had several so I suspect they came off a uniform.

Thanks,

Stephen
