Hello Iain, glad to see you collecting to one of the best regiments ever raised!
How many pieces have you got, or should I ask how many have you got to find, some of stuff is actually quite scarce. I don't include the Light Horse Regiment in that latter though, but, I dare say you might! Kind regards Frank Last edited by Frank Kelley; 11-05-14 at 04:35 PM. |

I have one of the hackles and believed it to be FC/CTH 6th Armoured Div related.
Was told a few years back that there were a few variations. Interesting this is only the second one I have seen! Alex I do believe one of your plaid brooches used to have a place in my collection...nice to see it again Brian |

Hi Steven,
nice to have. I have one of the TS from N Africa, maybe the one that JA Brown talks about in his book. Iain

Hi Frank,
I have 19 ILH and a further 8 LHR. Still to get, that I know of the WM Volunteer cap C 1904, the large WM 39/45 wartime cap with wording ILH rather than "Imperium et libertas," also blackened collars and of course the elusive plaid brooch. But I live in hope kind regards, Iain Quote:

Hello Iain,
I really don't know why some of this stuff is so scarce, have you got any of the other second world war Johannesburg made badges? Regards Frank Quote:

Very nice, I like the top left and bottom right in particular, both made in Johannesburg, the shape of the "L" on the top left example was actually used again in the second world war, but, these latter were cast, in brass, in white metal and in lead, made in Johannesburg too, many would just assume they were made in Nairobi!

Hi Frank,
on the same frame, left and right of the biM are WWII. L is a lead cast and R is a cast brass. I'm battling to take decent photos at the mo ILH 006.jpg regards, Iain

Hello Iain,
I meant other regiments, I take it you are talking about the two crossed standard and jack badges rather than the "titles" but I don't think either were made in the union. Regards Frank Quote:

Hi Frank,
I understand lead badges were actually made in Jo'burg, I think in the Railway yards. regards, Iain

Hello Iain,
Ah yes, I now see where you are coming from, very nice too, have you got a matching shoulder title. How often do you find such pieces and what, from memory, has been your best buy thus far? Regards Frank Last edited by Frank Kelley; 14-05-14 at 01:02 PM. |

Hi Frank,
this one I actually found in a scratch box and no, no titles. Odd things still do pop up from time to time. If you are saying ILH, probably the ABW titles. Do you also have ILH items? regards, Iain
