There seems to be a comment under the note on John Stevenson's entry. It is difficult to read but seems to be something along the lines of: issued 26 Oct 55 or possibly, invalided 26 Oct 55.

Gentlemen
The medals arrived today very quickly which is good!
But the bad news is I think the the whole Crimea set up is a cast fake!
I hope these pictures show clearly the casting mess
It’s couldnt be easily be spotted in the photos initially provided by the seller, oh well !
Kind regards Chay

It’s a typical casting mess, a lot of research has been done in this field exposing fakes, these areas in blues show deformed letters and pimples from the rubber mould which has seeped out
Looking at the workmanship I would date it to the 1970s
Without a 3D I can’t see more but there’s no way it is a die struck original so I have just got back from the post office it’s being returned unfortunately
Kind regards Chay

Complete and utter dross, demand a refund immediately, who is the comedian that offered it for sale?

Thank you Gentlemen!
I appreciate all the help here truly, it was difficult to spot initially but I took a shot and at least I nearly owned a Crimea medal!
I bought the medal on eBay and the seller has accepted a refund it wasn’t cheap!
Kind regards Chay

Apologies for being so enthusiastic about the medal but my original opinion was based on the initial photographs. I was particularly influenced by the impressed naming and the fact that it tied in with a known recipient. The medal has clearly been aged by knocking it about a fair bit.

I am pleased that you have been able to get a full refund.

Simon

Thank you Simon,
It’s one of those things and I have recently been studying cast reproductions fakes and it just shows one has to be careful with poor images.
Sometimes poor photos are a blessing and sometimes not I suppose you have to edge your bets !
Kind regards Chay

Thank you Chay and to everyone else who has participated in this thread.

I watched and read the thread with interest. As my knowledge is lacking in such topics, it wasn't appropriate for me to weigh in, in any constructive way. That said, I have learned a great deal and enjoyed seeing how this unfolded.

Sorry it didn't work out this time for you Chay, but pleased you got a refund and will hop a good examples comes your way soon.

Cheerio,

Roy
