I would have gone with American. MP PL is, I believe, Military Police Platoon. However, it appears to be Canadian.

United Nations Military Police Platoon based in Beirut in Lebanon. Dates 1980 to 2000 I believe. International unit made up of personnel from each of the contingents supplying troops. The crossed pistols are the genetic symbol used by the unit for all it's personnel. I believe that this is the standard pattern fob and colors
as worn by all in the unit.

Are the crossed pistols / flintlock pistols not a feature of Military Police insignia used by Military Police units within all or various of the UN Missions?

"The crossed pistols are the genetic symbol used by the unit for all it's personnel."

You mean... they breed MPs that way? Oh, dear!

A very similar version of these were worn be MPs serving in the UN Military Police Company of the second United Nations Emergency Force (UNME II), in Suez Canal area, 1973-1979. I am in contact with a former Canadian MP who served in this unit during the 1974-75 period and was issued one of these badges. The only difference is that the top portion of the UNEF II MP badge says "MP COY" rather than "MP PL".
