Default Middlesex Regiment Oddity

Hi Guys, not sure if this falls into the category of insignia although it does feature the Middlesex Regiment badge. It’s about 6 inches in length and carries a serial number on the rear - anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

Tweed, thanks for the quick reply - it is a possibility - the sword however is about 6-7 inches in length and there is no visible pin or fastener though.
