Not a para helmet but a despatch riders helmet. Same shell but different liner and chin strap.

Rgds, Thomas.

The Sgt has no formation sign, but the gamin in the helmet is sporting a medal ribbon! Mike

It appears this picture was discussed years ago on the WW2talkforum.

Then it was suggested that Sgt Instructors wore trade badges this way?

I'm pleased with this new purchase, the backing appears very dark blue or black.

Could it be RN or Royal Marines?

A new purchase, Feb 25th 1946, No2 Depot C.A.?

It appears that this Driver Mechanic may have been entitled to the "C" trade badge?

Also interesting that a class C Driver Mechanic was only the equivalent of a Mechanics helper which doesn't sound very impressive.

Presumably early WW2 or just before, pencilled on the back "RA Regimental Driver Instructor" and a photographers stamp "? & Mason Minster Road Isle of Sheppey".
