Default Muslim Chaplain in Canadian Forces. The Badge.

Since 10 December 2003 Canada's Armed Forces have a Muslim Chaplain. That's something I was barely aware of. Now I have found this link to be a colour depiction of "a" Muslim Chaplain badge. Can any fellow Canadian of this forum confirm this is a regulation badge to be worn on the peaked cap or he may wear something else.

I could not find much specific to muslim chaplains in the regs. However, I would say that the composition/construction of the badge and the headdress would depend on which element the chaplain was serving in...like other chaplains.

The Muslim Chaplain's badge has been offered on ebay over the last year or so. It appears to be mylar construction, and is a cap badge. Here is a blazer badge for sale:

Here is a link to an auction for a Muslim Chaplain cap badge. To my eye it looks like a private purchase example. http://cgi.ebay.com/CDN-FORCES-CHAPL...4#ht_568wt_958

What makes me chuckle is the sheer number of these I have seen on ebay in the last 6 months. How many are there actually officially "in use" and in wear.

I would have thought that headress was rarely worn for muslim clerics anyway (well anything with a peak at least...), at least during prayer as the forehead must touch the ground, so a beret only I would have thought?

I just did a quick check on the badges and this guy must think that he has found a gold mine here,to be exploited to the fullest. He's advertising, beside the Muslim Chaplain's badge, also the Christian and Jewish chaplains cap badges. All three have the same basic shape except for, the centre piece which is different. Also, this same guy advertise for the same badges as blazer badges (hopefully in a different size).Talk about milking a subject for all its worth......

In this case I'm happy and proud to say that I have no connections whatsoever to this seller.

Please remember that these are officers badges. In the CF, with the exception of a few government issue officers' cap badges, they are made and sold through kit shops. There can be several manufacturers - I have seen several variations of the Communications badge (officers' embroidered), as well as Logistics, Dental, Medical among others. Because many of these are hand made in Asia, you will see variations within a "batch", as well as outright mistakes.
There is nothing to stop somebody from having these made up. They may or may not be actually worn.

Phil
