Has been described as appealing to the homoerotic sadists in the RN.
Might I suggest keeping these in your own private stash.

Ouch. And I thought having to watch 'Call the Midwife' was painful at Christmas!

Thanks for posting those items Joe. It certainly shows us all the harsh and indeed brutal aspects of service life in 'the old days'. The fact that so many young men joined up to 'escape' their circumstances and ended up in worse circumstances is sad but reality. There but for the Grace of God.

Cheers Al

Brought back memories of my basic training, at Pirbright.

"Vicious but fair"?
And only 10 minutes ago I was sitting with my mother discussing her father's RN service as an immediate post WWI Boy Sailor through WWII.

Pass me another pink gin and a cat o' nine tails, I've broke this one......
Thank goodness I joined the army, far more enlightened and civilised than that rum, wotsit and concertina mob.

As in "don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!"?

Rum, sodomy and the lash is what it was, why pretend otherwise? WSC knew well.
