Default Essex Yeomanry

Hello Troops
I need some advice please. I have a pair of Essex Yeomanry collar badges but I can not find any info on them. They are the same as KK1493 but without the scroll, and they are not voided.
Regards Terry

Hi Terry,

Can you post a picture? There are a couple of possibilities (at least).

Thanks

Michael

Hello Michael.
Thanks for your reply, I'm a bit thick regarding how to put photos on the site, but I will ask my lad to come around and show me how to do it.
Regards Terry

Terry, is it either of these ones, or something else again?

Also what are the fittings?

Ah those ones, been a while since I've since them :-)

Little formal info on these but from my research so far, headdress rather than collars, definitely unofficial. However I have found one group photo that has some members of 2/1st EY wearing them along with the standard voided collars. So appear to be made up for the second (and maybe third) line late in the War. But as I say, limited info / evidence beyond that.

There's a very similar badge for the Shropshire Yeo of equally uncertain heritage.

Hi Michael
Many thanks for your advice and photos. I have had these for some time now, I can't remember where I got them from. When I started collecting [30 years ago] I bought heaps of badges from a dealer in Kent, nice man but I don't think he had a clue. Since I joined the forum I have found out that most of the badges I bought from him are repos, and the two EY badges might have come from him, I must have got them from a different dealer. Its good to know that they are ok.
Thanks again Michael.

No worries Terry. I don't think they are repros as there's no official badge to be copied. They've been discussed before on the forum and the consensus is fake. With the photo I discovered they're in the "unofficial items" section of my collection and my book as they do appear to have been worn, albeit very briefly, but without any official authority to do so found so far.

They come up on eBay quite regularly, in a wide range of finishes!

I personally think them to be old repros. The slider on one is modern in my opinion. The resemblance to the fake SY has already been mentioned.

Repro of what though Alan, there's no authorised and sealed badge of that design.
