Default Trucial Oman Scouts - old and new

Trucial Oman Scouts cap badge are an expensive and exotic item - but take care.

Earlier this year the TOS OCA held a big reunion in the UAE. As you'd expect they paid a visit to the silversmith in Sharjah Souk who made their insignia. While there they commissioned a new run of cap badges, officers and ORs.

These are made from the original moulds and to my eye are absolutely identical to the old ones. Fortunately there is a difference from the back. The originals have a hand made pin (point up not down) while new ones have a mass produced modern jewellery catch.

Pictures: originals top.

Enjoy, Eddie

Good to know! A classy badge to a really interesting unit!

One of my first serious reads on military history as a teen was a book by "John Bagot Glubb Pasha", the first commander of the [Jordanian] Arab legion and I've always had a fondness for the various British led/inspired units from the Arab world.

I was on that trip and I heard/saw nothing about new badges being made. Interested to know where the information came from.

And incidentally, Sharjah souk is nothing like it used to be. It is now a sad somewhat dead place with not a silversmith in sight. The original moulds for badges were made and retained by Sheik Naim (Robin B'std) and I would be surprised if he passed them on to anyone else. Methinks these badges have been made in the UK. The plot thickens.

Default TOS Blazer Buttons

Now here is a nice Christmas Card I have just received. Attached are 6 Blazer Buttons (or if you are in the Brigade of Guards - Boating Jacket) for The Trucial Oman Scouts.
These are silver and were made in the 1960's and I can vouch for their pedigree.
