Default Hello from Illinois

Hello, my name is Mike and I am a US WWI collector from Illinois. I have been collecting for 2 years now and have amassed a decent sized collection of uniforms, field gear, insignia and so forth. Recently I have been focused on collar disks from WWI and thought that I would spice it up a little and switch to something else that I have always found fascinating. Primarily I am here to educate myself on WWI British and Commonwealth insignia and hopefully get to a point where I am comfortable in purchasing them. I will have plenty of questions as they arise and hope the members of this forum can assist me. One question I have at this time is where is the best place to start with Canadian insignias? Is there a "bible" for identifying individual units and also a place that is a quality source for ID'ing fake/reproductions vs. original items?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike, Welcome to the B&CMBF. Review the threads and you will find an incredible resource for identifying and classifying insignia and weeding out the bad stuff.
To start, here is a link to recommended references. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/boo...liography2.htm and http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/books/bibliography.htm.

Thank you Bill for the links. I also saw the CEF current project link at the top of the page and that seems like a good place to start for id'ing any titles I come across.

irish, where do you hail from in Illinois? I'm in the Springfield Area.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the forum. Plenty of seasoned collectors here with lots of experience and a willingness to share, so I'm sure you will enjoy the experience.

Very much look forward to hearing about your collection.

Cheers, Roy.

Thanks Roy. I will have to see about posting outside of the normal focus of the forum as I don't want to overstep any bounds.

Hi Mike welcome to the Forum, What are Bounds? do we actually have such things?

You will find lots of help here to assist you on what you wish to find out and although the site is new to you, compared with the U.S. Militaria forum site (Much too big!) this site is just nice! more importantly friendly and never any arguments! (cough!)

Good luck and hope you will find it fun and a lot of helpful people here to guide you on your way! enjoy & welcome once again! billy

Sorry, I thought that I had replied to your post. Yeah that would be great. I need to find some spare time however, it seems to be elusive at the moment.

Thanks,
Mike
