Default ROYAL MILITARY POLICE

This is one for the Royal Military Police experts.
I have seen a RMP badge for sale that is advetised as "SCARCE 1948-52 KINGS CROWN ROYAL MILITARY POLICE GVI RMP CAP BADGE" Can you confirm if the crown was changed
I cannot show pictures as they belong to another person.
I await the many replies to come..........

I would guess the scarce refers to the 'ROYAL' prefix? Rather than to the crown....
Cheers Tony.

Here are the 4 OR versions that I have in brass:

CMP GV
CMP GVI
RMP GVI
RMP EIIR

I also have the EIIR a/a one and the GVI CMP Plastic economy. The RMP GVI tends to go for a few more pounds than the CMP one. Mine cost me £8 I think.

They became the Corps of Royal Military Police (RMP) on 28 November 1946 under Army Order 167 , so a new badge would have been issued BUT did it change in 1948 to a different crown until 1952 when it would have changed again to the Queens crown.
Here is my modest collection of CMP/RMP

Default Corps of Royal Military Police

Hi Folks,

I can confirm that the KC was retained until HM The Queen became the Sovereign, when the QC was adopted. I will post the relevant Army Order detailing the changes when the Royal Prefix was granted, when I get home.

Stephen, I was told that the 'Minor changes' are a list contained in a book deposited in the NA. I never bothered to try for it.

Default RMP

Marc,

I've searched TNA catalogue without success, I don't suppose you have a reference at all?

Minor Changes don't exist in the collections of the Royal Armouries, IWM, NAM, or RLC museum. The ex-Librarian at the War Office Library has no recolection of holding a copy. Many people would like to find it as it should contai many wartime introductions for badges, weapons, uniform etc.

Stephen.

Thanks Frank. Often a good sign of an original though I assume that everything is done these days to fool collectors including clipping the slider.

LOL Jerry,
Well, nothing surprises me these days with all the dross around, but, that is just a good honest badge and the type of thing that should always be bought on sight if the price is right.
Kind regards Frank
