Default National Title

Rather irritatingly this red on black title (see reverse) has been carefully picked out in white ink/paint. Who would this have been worn by in either colour, and when? Thanks. Mike

Hi Mike
The red on black would most likely have been naval. No idea why it would have had white paint applied though. At a guess I would say very late WWII or post WWII to about 1952. Again, that is a guess, my reasoning being that the later red on black ones (post-1955) that I've seen all had rounded ends. The square ended style is new to me but could be explained by badges possibly being made in the UK or elsewhere during the war.
Cheers,
Alex
