Default Cameronian Highlanders badge

Hi,
I was recently given a box of old cap badges collected by a retired guy when he was a small boy.. one is a CH badge but I noticed it has a small makers plate fixed to the rear which reads 'Firmin & Sons London St Martinsia?e' Is this unusual or standard practice to fit a plate?
Also could anybody put a date to it - WW1?
Thanks in advance,
Rick

It's for the Cameronians, the Scottish Rifles. Nothing to do with Highlanders as they were a Glasgow Regiment. The plate is for Firmin St Martin's Lane so it is a bought badge rather than issued.

Firmin moved to St. Martins Lane in 1894.
