Default 23rd Light Horse - FAKE HAT BADGE - EBAY

Hi Guys,

Here's an example of a fake 30-42 period fake 23rd Light Horse (Barossa Light Horse) hat badge.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWA:IT&ih=011

The back of the badge is quite rough and is an easy tell tale sign of a fake.

Hi Mick,
I think it is important that the fakes are highlighted, however a good side effect of your post is that I have now been able to identify a badge which I thought to be Canadian. Here is a pic - do you think it is ok ?

Mate,

That hat badge is good. Compare it to the one on the ebay listing and you can then notice how different they are.

Yours is a nice badge.

and the worst thing about the dud ebay badge is that someone bought it. $56 is alot of money for a piece of junk. an extra $50 odd would have bought him a good one

Er, perhaps not. You'd be lucky to get a real one for under $250 AUD these days, and more likely have to pay around $350.

Here's some larger and more detailed pictures of an authentic badge for comparison:

Mick,
Are these type of very distinctive types of lugs/loops always used

Hi David,

I believe they are pretty common for that period.

These 'solid lugs' -- for want of a better way to describe them -- are, as Mick says, common for the period, but the more usual 'wire lugs' were also used a lot too. You can't be too categorical about Aussie badges of this period, except to say that sliders weren't used at all.

hi lettman
here is an original 23rd light horse badge with unfortunately a lug broken. but that should not be a problem to most of the collectors on here. what do you think it will sell for? i will go $120. will you stick to your $250-$350 range?
see who is closer
