Cavalry Helmet Plates ID
I have just inherited the following helmet plates, however I do not know much about them except they are OR's issue I believe. I am assuming one of them is around 1902. Can you ID the others as to year/pattern etc. I am planning on selling them as they are not in my interest field. Thanks for any advice.

5th Royal Irish Lancers, 16th Lancers and 17th Lancers OR's helmet plates. Look fine from the front. Please post pics of the rears for definite verification of originality from the experts. All Queen Victoria Crown so you are correct pre 1902.

G'day rizsla
The plates look good to me, they have the correct screw posts and funny little nut screw fittings. The 17th Lancers, with Scull and Cross Bones and Motto OR GLORY (and you can never have enough Glory), has battle honours to South Arica 1879 so that dates it from about 1880 till 1902, a new plate was introduced with the Kings Crown following the death of Queen Victoria in 1902, the same also applies to the other 2 regiments. I hope that you are going to put them up for sale on the forum. Regards Phil.

Thanks Phil. Appreciate the comments. I will be more than happy to put them up for sale on the forum, however at the moment I really have no idea of their value. I sell a number of antique and modern longarms and can normally estimate a fair value for them but I have nothing to compare these badges to at the moment. I cannot even find previous sales for them to get some idea of what a fair value would be.
I will do more research and "let you know" as they say. Thanks again for your expert eye and opinion. Regards. Mark.

Plates
Hi Rizsla
Plates look good to me, but you have to have these things in your hand for the final verdict they have been copied to death. Plus points are they are well struck the ribs on the lion and unicorn are strong on both sides the flat edge to the bottom of the plate. They seem to have the right fittings. I don't like all the muck on the back but this may be due to your extreme temps down under. 17th plate was very hard to strike another good test is to hold it to the light there are nearly always some thin spots and holes If I saw them on ebay or Auction I would take a gamble as they look very good. As for price 16th at Auction £60 - £100 5th at Auction £90 - £130 17th (1879) Plate most common of the 17th plates but £100- £150 Trader prices are much higher sometimes but I think there fair prices you would expect to pay.
