Default Signal Corps Side cap badge

Greetings all,

Please could you advise if the badge in the attached picture is the correct badge for the side cap ?

If not, which would be the correct one then ?

Thanks

Mark

No it is not correct with the 1960s staybright buttons. The Royal Corps of Signals adopted these side caps in the late 1930s and wore them with the badge shown into WW2.

They were readopted post war and worn in day to day wear in the 1960s. As yours has a/a buttons then it has either had them replaced or is a post war item. The badge worn was the 2 part 'Jimmy.' In all cases they were privately bought and not issued items.

I should add that the badge on the hat that you have was worn from the start of the Corps in 1920 up to 1947 when it was replaced by the 2 part version with King's Crown. At this time the normal headdress was the khaki GS cap and later the dark blue beret. It is a big corps and you see variances in dress accordingly.

The cap shown is still allowed to be worn in Mess Kit (virtually unheard of) by Royal Signals officers but with gold braid trim and I know that a few officer still sport them in barrack dress.

Yes that was the badge commonly worn in the 1960s with that hat.
