Default Rate Patches LTO

Hi all, would any of our RN gurus be able to offer some thoughts on the pictured smaller size Leading Torpedoman Rate.
The blue on white would appear to be of the size seen on a CPO lapel (as in the red on blue, also crossed right over left ) but to the best of my knowledge was not worn by CPO's on tropical whites. A normal size rate is pictured for comparison.
Appreciate any input.
Cheers.
Len.

Should the rounded end be at the top?

Default Rate Patches LTO

Hi Len

In tropical white uniforms CPOs used to wear non-substantive (trade) badges on the right cuff above the centre gilt button. Gold badges were worn with No. 6 and 7 Dress, and blue with No. 5 Dress.

No. 5 Dress was the normal working clothing for hot weather. It consisted of the serge suit, or if whites were being worn, a drill suit. Medal ribbons were optional.

In No. 6 Dress the white drill suit was worn with medals.

In No. 7 Dress the white drill suit was worn without medals.

So CPOs would have worn the blue-on-white badges you refer to with No. 5 Dress, but above the cuff buttons rather than on the lapel.

Pete

Default LTO

Hi Pete, thanks for taking the time to respond. Very informative. I also have a smaller size TGM in blue on white with the torpedos crossed right over left so that explains that one as well.
Cheers.
Len.
