Default An opinion on a Grenadier Guards title please

This embroidered Grenadier Guards title was represented as a First WW pattern. Opinions?

I think these were worn on the greatcoat.

That is also my impression Mark. I am using the article by Alan Jeffreys, "First World War Battalion Patches for the Foot Guards", Bulletin of the Military Historical Society, Issue 242, November 2010, Vol. 61, p. 26-31, as my primary source.

The article/analysis is based on the the samples and data provided by the units in their responses to the 1917 National War Museum questionnaire organized by Martin Conway and retained at the Imperial War Museum.

a copy of that article is published online

https://rmhistorical.com/files/conte...I%20Badges.pdf

on the basis of this article, and the provenances of the sources used for it, I would say unlikely to be WW1.

John

Thanks to all. Informative. It shines a considerable light on the practices of enhancing groups of militaria.

Did that apply to all the Guards regiments or just the Grenadier Guards?
