Default Odd LRDG Fake?

I have had this for sometime but as its not part of my main collecting theme have not been to concerned about it, but digging out and having a closer look it seems to have features that are somewhat odd for the usual fakes. No rim on the front, the number 42 stamped into the back. Is it a fake, an unusual variant or what. Thoughts appreciated.

The unvoided letters make it a fake, also it looks the rims were polished off together with detail on the scorpion.

Rgds, Thomas.
