Default ROYAL ENGINEERS UNKNOWN BADGE

Can anyone id this badge that appears to have a Polish eagle? on engineers backing?I suspect WW2 Period

If it is Polish it is form after the War when they did away with the crown, monarchy being none too popular then. the heart shaped thingy in the middle is unknown to me.

There may possibly be a connection with an 'Electric Light' Unit.
