Default Two Liverpool Scottish Cameron.

Any information on these two would be welcome, they look the same from the front, but not the back, is this a makers variation, or is one, or the other a fake?
Thanks Tony.

Hello Tony, they are both what I call 'maker B' (as in I'm not sure who the maker was yet - A was Gaunt). I can't quite tell what they are from the photographs - is one WM and the other AA (or chromed) ?
The features such as the distraught face, wobbly hands etc have convinced many people that they are fakes or Pakistani products. The latter is possible but as they appear in silver plate, WM, chromed and AA they strongly suggest that they are genuine badges.
In 1965 an AA badge was authorised by the MoD but the Lpl Scots dinna like them ! The AAs were shunted off to the cadets and the Bn bought WM ones from somewhere else - which might indeed have been Pakistan. To my mind if they were worn by the unit - wherever they came from - they are 'genuine' badges ! I think they were still designated Pattern no 11247/1938. In any case the Bn disappeared in 1967 to be replaced by a new unit wearing other badges (Peter can give you details which unit was which after 1967 - that's too modern for me !)
There might be details somewhere but for now you have to make up your own mind ! I have three of these in my collection - SP, WM and AA - Peter B has a nice one in frosted silver plate - and I'm still after a chromed one and according to Chris / Hagwalther there are two types of AA - one being thinner than the other which might account for the different reverse dies.
best wishes
Julian

Hello Julian thank you for your reply, interesting.
The badge on the right arrived yesterday in the bag attached, bearing an NSN code, this maybe original to the badge but may not, hopefully someone can help?
Cheers Tony.

Hi Tony,

Fake A/A cap badges are quite scarce. There are a few unofficial commissions that were made by Gaunt of units where A/A cap badges were never authorised but fakes are few and far between. When you see one you will know it cos they look rubbish usually made via open cast methods with lots of pitting to the reverse.

Looking at the lugs - the one on the left is Gaunt and the one on the right Firmin or one of the companies it acquired during 50's-70's. Both are genuine examples.

Regards,

chris

Hello Chris, thanks for your confirmation, do you know if the NSN number in post #3 is correct for this badge?
Regards Tony.

Hi Tony,

The bag you have has 'PR' on it for 'pair' so suggest it is not.

The NSN for The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders (Liverpool Scottish) is:

NSN 8455-99-973-9933

Before the NSN came about the CB No. for the badge was CB 3333.

Regards,

Chris

As well as the Liverpool Scottish ( Army Cadet Force ) units, the Liverpool Collegiate Combined Cadet Force cadets were badged as Liverpool Scottish,.

As with all long gone CCF units it is difficult to obtain information on which badges they actually wore.. I assume in the final years of the Collegiate CCF they wore anodised Liverpool Scottish cap badges but that still needs to be confirmed.

The bag doesnt relate to the badge Tony. The nsn is for LI officers service dress shoulder titles or collar badges i dont recall which.
The bag is one used by London Badge /TKS,the Firmin bags have loads of info on and are sealed whereas the others use the snap seal type bags .
Badges made by Gaunts usually came swathed in a tissue paper wrapping rather than a sellophane bag.

Peter,
I've just watched a series of photographs featuring the Liverpool Collegiate on YouTube, there was one dated 1952, with OTC/CCF uniformed pupils, I could make out a South Lancs cap badge, also in a later image (looks like their Rugby team), a uniformed Lance Corporal but no cap badge.
The Old Boys Association may be able to help???
Regards Tony.

Tony,

Yes, Liverpool Collegiate CCF affiliated to the South Lancashire Regiment before the Liverpool Scottish.
