unidentified button with arabic script from either Egypt or Turkey
This 19 mm brass button is marked on the rear with "A. Mayer & Co, Wien".
Who used it? What does the text (Turkish or arabic) say? The textile trading company of A. Mayer & Co was founded in 1874 by Albert Mayer in Alexandria, Egypt and his brother Sigmund Mayer in Vienna. They had warehouses throughout the Ottoman Empire. During WWI the company was licensed to trade with the British. Afterwards it operated on the Balkan and in Egypt. |
