My RA RE And R.Sigs Collections
Just thought I would post my pictures of my sets I've framed up of Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers and Royal Signals Badges. I don't think I'll add to much more to them, but I'm always a sucker for any interesting pieces.

John, amongst your RE cap badges, do you have any that have a clasp rather than lugs or a slider? I have one, GVR in brass which has such a clasp. I don't know whether this is an officer's badge or it has been "brooched". I'll try and take a photo of it and post it later this week (I'm not at home right now). Also, when I was a kid my grandfather gave me a cloth slider which had "R. Sigs" on it, from when he was in Signals during WW2. I've only ever seen listed "Royal Signals" or "R. Signals". Alas, I don't have it now. Don't know what happened to it.

T Signal service shoulder title
This I believe was the fore runner of the Royal Signals, which at the time of ww1 was a part of the Royal Engineers. The T was for territorial. I've never actually seen one, but had a relation who was a dispatch rider in that unit during the battle of the somme

I do have one. despite various NAAFI stories the general concensus is that there was no special significance other than it was a better quality makers' variation. Presumabley a peacetime product. Oddly there is an a/a version witha moving wheel.

Moving Wheel
On my RA badge frame I have 4 on it with moving wheels. One is a brass KC badge, one is a bronze officers badge, one is a brass HAC badge and one is supposedly a battlefield find, which is a bit tarnished and tatty, but I like it. As far as why some had moving wheels and some fixed, I don't know. I will have to have a look at the above mentioned thread to investigate

HI DAVID, I have a GVR badge which has a clasp. This was changed from a slider by my late grandfather and given to my grandmother as a "sweetheart" brooch during WW 1. Hope this helps. Jerry

Hi cstudent,
RGA stands for Royal Garrison Artillery who manned the heavy artillery pieces in WW1. Bantam |

My RA etc.
On the subject of the T/Signal Service title - it would have been worn with a standard RE title above. Regulars wore RE/Signal Service an Territorial Army engineers wore RE/T/Signal Service, sometimes 2 piece and sometimes 3 piece. Yours looks totally genuine. Regards. David
