Possibly a London ACF Detachment sponsored by the Westminster Dragoons?
If you are aged between 12 and your 17th birthday and you are interested in joining HQ (Westminster Dragoons) Squadron, The Royal Yeomanry, we recommend that you join one of the two ACF units which are linked to us: Westminster Dragoon Cadets. ACF Hut, Conisborough Crescent, Catford, London SE6 2SS. Telephone 020 8461 4152 131 Cadet Det Royal Tank Regiment, TA Centre, 27 St John’s Hill, Battersea, London SW11 1TT Tim

Interesting to see that there is still an RTR Cadet Detachment at St John's Hill which was the home of 42nd RTR until 1956 but has been a London Regiment Drill Hall for many years.

It would certainly be consistent with a brassard worn by 92 Detachment, part of 9 Regiment, SE London ACF. (The badge below the title is that of SELACF). I was a Detachment Commander in another unit of 9 Regiment, and the DC of 92 was a good friend of mine. The CO of 9 Regiment at the time had been a former OC of 92 and wore the WD officer's pattern dress cap in Service dress.
From fuzzy recollection, the Westminster Dragoons were very supportive of their cadet detachments, lending NCOs for annual camp and the like. But the cadets tended to play with armoured cars rather than tanks. The RAC coloured shoulder titles were being aggressively phased out in favour of the yellow on red - and nastily made - generic titles when I left in the early 90s, but 92 were determined to preserve theirs as long as possible. |
