The red/black/red might relate to an Army or Command Troops unit, that being the standard staff armlet colours for those formations.

Thank you Keith. The other stencil appears to be a crude representation of the PoW's feathers with a title scroll and could possibly be an interpretation of the Welsh Regiment's cap badge.

The one in the eBay link is presumably a HG helmet, the three holes stamped on either side of the rim showing it's a MkIIc (I think it's a MkIIc?) for home service.
Don't know about the originality of the insignia. |
