I've only ever seen one, for sale at "The Badgers Den" or The Den" I think was the name, run by Cyril Bussell, in Hythe, years ago.....

Most of these displays had cast badges and of course the Security Forces never wore cast badges. They were made just for the displays. Taking one off will show whether they are cast.

Hi Peter, These sets were in fact produced by Reuteler & never contained cast badges, but genuine Reuteler badges. Other manufactures produced sets that contained cast badges, including the "dart board" type wooden cabinet. From about late 1979 or early 1980, some units did wear cast badges. I have two "greens" caps with cast RhASC badges from two WO2s. Also a beret, from a senior NCO RhASC. Can't say about other units as I have not met ex-members with their headgear with cast badges. Cheers, Dave

Default Rhodesian Cap Badge Set

The Reuteler set previously posted is made up of genuine cap badges produced by Reuteler. I have seen sets made by other manufacturers that contained cast badges. Two sets that I have seen had cap badges with no lugs. This is a set that came from a veteran & is made up of cast badges (with cast lugs) making quite a nice display set.

Default Rhodesian Badges

Hi Peter, I never believed that cast badges were worn until I bought kit from three old soldiers who had cast badges on their caps/berets. All of these cap badges were from RhASC chaps. I have not heard of chaps from other units wearing them. Cheers, Dave

Default Rhodesiam cast badges

Hi Peter, I'm not sure if I still have these caps, but I did pull out one worn by a WO1. I did not take a photo of the lugs, but will dig around & see what I can find. The WO1 cap is not in great shape, but does have a Zimbabwe Army Services Corps cast badge similar to the two WO2 caps with the RhASC cast badges if I can find them! Too many boxes in the garage!!! Cheers, Dave

No problem. Just if you get around to it. I'm just interested since it is my belief that Reuteler made all insignia in the 70's for the security forces.

I know this is quite a bit of a gap but the third company that made badges for the Rhodesian Security Forces was Mathews of Bulawayo.

I thought the set I'd seen decades ago was cast. skth a shiny plating - reminded me of some Israeli badges which were of a softish alloy with a plated "crust"
