Default Frontier Force Drum Major Baldric Sash

A post 1945 Sash as far as I can tell based on the elimination of a regimental number, in this case 12th FFR. The regimental badge looks as though it carries forward a P.O.W. lineage 1/12th FFR? A nice looking sash with wear and use.

The campaign/battle honors captures the unit lineage and NW Frontier history quite nicely. As you can see many historic names, to include Ali Masjad the fortress at the Khyber Pass. My fascination with the Frontier began in my childhood, books and movies. This appeared in a recent auction here in the U.S. Hope you enjoy.

Yes, very nice. Do the battle honours end at 1900 or are there more on the back of the sash?

Peter,
The last battle honour date is Afghanistan 1919, lower right hand corner. No additional honours on the reverse. Thanks Jack

Is my assumption that this is post 1945 make sense, or could it be earlier?
Thanks
Jack

If it was post 1947 it would not have the crown on it at all! re the partition of India.

In addition, the badge of the 1/12th didn't actually have the numbers '1' or '1/12th' on it but relie on the POW plume for identification, so in fact this could date from any time after the 1922 amalgamation.

Incorrect (but generaly thought as being correct). It was only in January 1950 that India became a Republic. Before it still was a kingdom under George VI.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
After the independence of India and Pakistan in 1947, George remained as king of both countries, but the title Emperor of India was abandoned in June 1948.
Thus the changes of badges and titles was from 1950.

For Pakistan, the change came only in 1956.

Thanks for clarifying that, Henk! One tends to forget that India and Pakistan choose diffeernt dates to finish 'cutting the cord', probably much to the disgust of bioth armies. It's is certainly the case that even today many regiments cling fiercely to traditions and distinctions of dress that might be decried as 'colonial hangovers' by non-military types.
