Have to thank you all once again appreciate your help - the Irish Guards is put back together and you have made a good badge into a gem as I didn't realise it was as old as the Forum views suggest, and its origins!
Thanks Tim for the link, mine corresponds quite nicely will look out for the smaller and really! large variant!

Hi Billy, If you did want to get the St Patrick's blue enamel fixed you could try this lot. http://www.jewellery-repairs-london....namelling.html regards John

Think the cane top is a Victorian Royal Marine Light Infantry. It has the VR crown and a bugle horn at the bottom. Look up cane tops on Ebay and they sell very well if you want to make a quick couple of £s
