Default RTR die error?

Gentlemen!

AA badges are definitely far outside of my period of interest, but a friend just gave this to me so figured I’d keep it as an example. Upon examination, the crown appears significantly off center, the left portion on a the crown with clearly flat material along the edge, while on the right side it appears that the die missed almost completely. The remainder of the badge is struck on center. Is this sort of thing common?

I have an Essex Constabulary cap badge, in white metal, like this on one side of the crown.

Amongst others I have a Fus Bde/RRF officers gilt & silver badge with the silver central device off struck, the wreath being far thinner on one side than the other although the rest of the design looks "normal".

And this Gloucestershire Regiment badge which, ok doesn't look at all partially miss-struck, just fully miss-struck.

Rather than mis-struck, it looks like a dug item that has suffered plough damage

No, the full silhouette of the badge is there, just the impressed design is offset, though I think you're right in saying it's ground dug.
