Default RCAC cap badge post war

This all white metal RCAC Kings crown cap badge was only used for a few years after WW2, after this type was the bi metal cap badge with Queens crown with a brass fist and "Canada" scroll.

The British used a similar all white cap badge, except the scroll read "RAC" instead of "RCAC".

When the Canadian Armoured Corps were granted the Royal honour, the badges and titles had to be changed. That coincided with the re-examination of the dress and insignia post war. In 1947 new dress regs were promulgated, and new badges were considered, finally, for the RCAC. They wished to be affiliated with the Royal Armoured Corps and when granted permission, they used a design similar to the RAC badge, with the modifications to make it uniquely Canadian.

Hi Mike, you say the badge was worn for a few years then replaced by the bi-metallic Q/C version. I have this w/m badge with the K/C replaced with a soldered on Q/C, for how long was this version worn? and was it official? Thanks in advance Mike

Hi

As I understand it the white metal King's Crown RCAC Badge was worn from 1949 until the new Monarch took the throne in 1953.

KCs were snipped off and supplied Queen's Crowns were brazed on locally. Later they were manufactured with QCs.

These w/m QC Corp badges were worn until 1974 when the bi-metal "Canada" scroll and maple leaf ones appeared.

regards
Darrell

Default RCAC QC

Sorry, I do not have a one piece Q/C all white metal cap badge in my collection. The sliders started as early as the 1960's on some cap badges. And there are two types of sliders, the straight type and the later type with a ball at the end of the slider.

Hi

Although I no longer have it, I did own a one piece QC RCAC badge. Bought it from a member here. I just found the snipped example a better story.

I have not seen one with a slider.

regards
Darrell
