A new Member to the Forum
Good Afternoon,
My name is Simon and I have just joined this Forum so thought a few words may be in order by way of an introduction. I have collected British Militaria in general for the past 40 or so years and do not really specialize in any particular area being a bit of a Magpie. I have had a fair number of badges, both metal and cloth in the collection over the years and thought it was time to join a Forum which would help improve my knowledge in this area. I served in the Coldstream Guards and Surrey Police and have a fair level of expertise in this area so may be able to help with any related questions in that department. Best Regards Simon. |

I don't understand this? Is it something to do with being in the Coldstream Guards?

As Coldstream is more than a fair hike from the welsh border, Why would a gentleman from the so named Guards be called as above?. I never ever saw one of them with Welly boots in hand, as I have of that other indigenous race from further West! Regards, D.J.

Welcome Simon. It's good to have representation from another Guards regiment. I had a distant relation - my second cousin once removed's father, whatever connection that is - who was a Coldstreamer. He was a no nonsense Geordie who served in N. Africa and Italy during WW2, then in Germany later on (Dortmund) and ended up as a Colour Sergeant. He's long gone now, as is my cousin, so I don't know whatever happened to any of his stuff. Anyway, because of that, I've always taken an interest in the Coldstreamers and collected a few of their badges and such.
Regards, David |

Many thanks for all the warm welcomes and a particular thanks for the traditional welcome from that other Guards Regiment...........and I don't mean the Micks!
I have had a brief scan through the relevant topics on the Forum and look forward to working my way through them over the Christmas break (spending it at the Mother in Laws, so should have plenty of excuses to be online!) Thanks again Simon |
