Officer´s Decoration for Gallantry before WW1
Do you know which decoration was awarded to Officers (captains and lieutenants) for gallantry in battle before WW1?
I only know the followings: 1. Victoria Cross (highest decoration) 2. Distinguished Service Order (for majors and above) 3. Distinguished Conduct Medal (for enlisted, NCO and WO´s) Thanks |

For Officers from the UK just the first two and also MID's.
PS - The DSO could be awarded to officers below the rank of Major. regards

Received your last post.
As far as I know, the DSO was awarded to Company Officers only when their Commanders had fallen and then they had to be in charge of the Battalion and so. Regarding to MID, it was introduced just after the War. Pedro |

Were not "brevets" also available to officers ... although I must confess to knowing very little about them. In the same way field commissions were also given to other ranks for particularly distinguished service .. tho' very rare.
