Default Infantry battalions 1948-60

Hi Guys,

As many of you know, there exists many different infantry battledress flashes worn from 1948 to 1960.

Many of these units also don't have badges mentioned as being worn in Cossum's 1948 to 1985 badge book.

What I am trying to find out is what hat badge did these regiments wear from 1948-1960? Did they wear a badge from the 1930-42 period or did they perhaps wear a Rising Sun badge?

Australian Rifles
City of Essendon Regiment
Hume Regiment
North Shore Regiment
NSW University of Technology Regiment
Swan Regiment
Wide Bay Regiment

All great questions... there are a few others to add to that list too (such as the Riverina... which seems to have used carry over insignia from the Regiment).

So, we are working on the same research issues as well. When we get down to Canberra (with a couple of draft copies of the manuscript for Vol2 to hand around for review), I expect that we will tackle these questions 'on notice', while we are there.

So, if there are other questions... happy to add them to the research list.

Regards

Mark

I would also like to know just which regiments wore screen printed shoulder flashes.

That might be difficult - these were privately purchased at unit expense prior to approval for designs being sought from AHQ. In July 1949 AHQ directed that no more titles were to be purchased at unit expense.

Very nice! You don't see screen printed flashes very often.
