Wow!
It’s interesting that although he was Gordon Highlanders, Commandos, and then SAS that his Long Service Medal appears to be RAF?
We’re the Special Air Service initially classed RAF?

Very interesting indeed, thank you for sharing.

Of interest (to me) is that is Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife is of late-war pattern, circa 1943 to 1945.

Cheers,

Roy

Will probably be bought by Lord Ashcroft to add to his Special Forces collection...

Wings were hammered at 2,200 and medals 84,000... it is a great lot should have gone to the SAS museum.

Cheers

http://www.specialforcesroh.com/show...an-Robert-(Bob) I have an identical wing in my collection but worn faded condition. I have seen this wing seen worn by 2ndSAS members (lt Riccomini) Bob was in 2ndSAS in 1944.

Cheers

JB

Lt Riccomini's first parachute jump was with 2nd SAS, as part of Operation Galia, Italy, December 27th 1944.

Maybe this batch of wing was locally sourced in Italy 1944 - as its differs in design from the pattern approved in July 1944 & ordered in August 1944?

Hi Johno ,
The same thought about Italy has crossed my mind. It could also be of North Africa origin, 2ndSAS was formed in 1943 in Algiers.
Lt Riccomini’s SAS beret badge looks also early and North African made and not the 1944 pattern.
Cheers,
JB
