RCAC
Hi, the w/m Q/c badges that I have all have the crown replaced, were they ever produced as one piece badges? The rather deformed collar is a one piece badge so I assume there must have been some, can someone confirm? Secondly, when did they change to the bimetallic badge and were they produced in two finishes or have mine just aged that way? Thanks in advance Mike

1. The RCAC q/c badges are simply k/c badge swith the crowns replaced. As far as I know, these were only ever worn in training before posting to a regiment.
2. The Armoured Branch badge would have come out in the 1970s. Two types of construction - gilding metal/brass which requires polishing and the later plated/coated "pot metal" which does not require polishing.

Hi Phillip, thank you for the information. I have some insignia for a soldier in training for the Armoured Corps during the war and he never was assigned to a regiment as far as I can make out. The only badge he had was a w/m or possibly silver general service collar badge size badge, could this have been what was worn as an CAC badge before the introduction of the RCAC one? Thanks again and best wishes Mike

An addition to Phil's comments. Some personnel were on the establishment of the RCAC and not on a regiment. They wore the RCAC badges. (The RCAC was responsible for training and staffing at some schools/bases.)
