Some interesting Gurkha badges
Top Row left to right:
1) 6th Assam Rifles O/R badge 2) 6th Assam Rifles Officers Boss badge ( a rare item – boss itself has been flattened probably been displayed ) badge itself with wire fixings in GC 3) 3rd Assam Rifles – actually shown in the 3rd GR museum booklet, but almost certainly Assam Rifles , either small cap badge or possibly a collar. 4) 1st Btn Chin Hills – a rare badge from Potters ( military musical instrument and insignia manufacturer ) came out of a frame that had hung in their Board room – cost me £60. Middle Row left to right : 5) 9th GR ( post 1947 ) pouch badge – has four spike fittings on the rear – very finely cast . Not seen another 6) 1st GR ( post 1947 ) pouch badge worn by the stick orderlies – again four original spikes to the rear – very finely cast . Not seen another. 7) Eastern Frontier Rifles – a very nice example of a rare cap badge with long square lugs – circa 1920’s > 1930’s – Bosley’s sold one exactly the same in Jan 2009 ( lot no. 304) for £264 ! ( Suffice to say I didn’t pay that but got it in a job lot ) 8) 4th Btn Special Armed Constabulary – circa 1930’s – an example went for £40 in the same auction ( lot no.305 ) Bottom Row: 9) A nice genuine example of 3rd Gurkha Rifles blackened brass cap badge 1920’s > 1947 – ( square lugs one damaged but still present ) 10) A nice genuine example of 4th Gurkha Rifles badge with brass handles |
