Hello Jo,

I spoke to Simon (LONGSHANKS) a year or so ago. It'd be nice to see him back participating on the forum again. I'm afraid I don't really know the other members you mention. Good call though.

Last time I had contacts with Simon (Longshanks) I think he was finishing university....around 2008-09.

Question Where are they now?

Jo,

It's a good point, some collectors have been collectors most of their lives and to others it's a passing phase, other interests get in the way such as family, sport or just plain commitments.

I post mainly in the winter when outdoor activities are curtailed by the weather, however that's not to say I don't visit the forum daily.

Something to reflect on. But the whole internet is changing as well. Fora are losing to FB and instagram, etc, but those venues don't offer the same features as a Forum. Some posters prefer those types of formats.

I believe Luke H was a student at Aberystwyth while he was active on here and then joined the Met.

I wonder if the word "member" under the user name could be altered in the case of deceased members to "RIP" or perhaps "1925-2014", although I'm not sure how you would get that information?

This forum could be here for many years to come and it would be nice if any positive contributions made by individual ex members were remembered after they..... "departed".

And other members would know not to try and contact them.

Just a thought

Rob

Simon Longshanks left the forum as he was unhappy with the attitudes of some members in their posts (if i remember correctly).

I don't think Simon formally left (relinquishing his membership). He was last 'active' here back in November, according to his profile page.

This is turning out to be an interesting thread! Members disappearing and coming back from the dead (apparently) and so on!

I wonder if there is any mileage in members having to 'renew' membership each year? It would potentially resolve the problem of knowing who is and who isn't an active member and whilst it wouldn't answer Rob's point above (post 8) it might stop fruitless attempts to contact people via the Forum.

It might also give us some idea of how active a membership there actually is. I am sure there are many members who joined just to make one post (what is it and how much is it worth?) never to be heard from again and these are artificially inflating membership figures, maybe even clogging up the site with needless information.

To be honest though, I doubt if it is worth the effort it would cause! Much more fun to speculate where everyone has gone!

Roger

So, are you the Canadian I have to thank for all of those here who were leaving if Trump was elected being turned back? Sorry about "the Donald". Two of those you mentioned are on my friends list. Maybe it's me.
