Default Queen's. OK or not?

From Brecon this morning.

Lampwick,

I'd personally be loathed to pass comment on either of these without seeing them in the fleece.

I do not have my post-WWI Queen's badges to hand to submit, but can at least provide an example of the earlier badge (albeit an 'economy strike') for comparison, if it helps:

Cheers,

PJ

Terry,
I'm not a fan of either, although the Bim badge is almost certainly wrong!

I agree with Andy. The Bi-metal one is a common fake.

Any thoughts on this lamb shape when all in GM as in PeterJ's example? Regards, Paul.

Paul,

I have to admit that the pattern/shape of the badge in my first post is not my favourite. I much prefer the other design (below)

Just my personal preference though.

Regards,

Peter

Paul,
Peter's scrawny lamb is fine! The Woodward mark is a good endorsement, the first three in the second row appear to be from the same die?. For some reason there seems to be quite a lot of variations to the c.1916 "Queen's" economy badges!

I think 'scrawny' is a very apt description.

The things I dislike most about it are the elongated neck and pointed face. Bit of a strange beast, that one!

Peter.

Peter,
dislike it as much as you like, but it's genuine! I cannot dislike it, it's a "Welsh" thing! Sheep are like angels! lol

No, no... I love the badge and everything associated with it. It's a great example, especially given the Woodward provenance. I just dislike the design of that particular pattern; I think the other type is far more aesthetically pleasing.

Here is Great Uncle Charles (6th Bn. QRWS) in uniform:

Sadly died five weeks before the end of the war, aged just eighteen.

Hi, interesting thread. In looking at all the pics attached, it raised a question on one I have as there is a slight difference. As you can see in the red circle, this one has some extra material. I looked at all the samples shown, but none have the same.
Would I be right in thinking that mine is a re-strike etc.

Simon.

Simon,

Here are the reverse sides of the bi-metal badges I posted... all have braze holes:

I note that your example also has a voided tail area.

Odd that trouble has been taken to pierce the tail area but not the front leg.

Absence of braze holes is not necessarily indicative of a bad badge. I think a more experienced Queen's buff is needed here.

Yes, strange. Wonder if there was a difference in London Regiment etc patterns

Simon.
