I believe that the first badge was worn by Free Czech forces in Britain during the 1939-45 War.

It certainly says "Czechoslovakia" on the body of the badge. I'm wondering why the OP didn't spot "Lincolnshire Regiment" on the second one?

the first badge is a 'Free Czech Forces' badge, sort of a souvenir/sweetheart badge produced to commemorate the St. Venceslas (Vaclav) Day in 1940 - the national day of
Czechoslovakia. Presumably made by WH Miller of Birmingham (I have a cased one with WHM marking in the box in my collection).

cheers,
s.

Default Free Czech Forces

Thanks for identifying this badge for me Skyman. It shows the help you can get from being a member of this Forum,
Out of interest, I found this badge in New Zealand.

the "presumably" has changed to "definitely" over Christmas: I have a photograph of this badge including its original paper slip with WHM of B'ham logo.
cheers,
s.

Aye it is a Lincoln's OSD officers badge, worn from 1902 until after WW2 I think. These are reproduced a lot though. My album has an original.

Default Lincoln Officers SD Badge

Hi Lincolnreg,
Thanks for your input on this badge I showed on the forum.
I had a look at your site and noticed the difference to the SD you have and the one I have,
Yours is Die stamped and the one I have looks cast,I must say a very solid badge
and very well made.
Also there is no pin from N to S on mine.
Do you have any thoughts on this
Kindest regards
Ray

Hi Ray,

You certainly get original cast versions also, but it's often difficult to tell them apart from the repros. They were basically an economy version. Sometimes you get a makers stamp on the back of a cast version, but as we now know these are often reproduced. I always say follow your nose ... does the cast look quality and an old metal mix ... does the wear look natural ... do the lugs look original and used. So much is instinct.

Cheers,
Dave
