Default Blank Scroll Lincolnshire

Not sure of this one at all... It's an erased scroll with the stamping still seen from the reverse.... Any comments appreciated... Jim

Blank scroll usually signifies a militia battalion. Not unusual to see the "ghost" battle honor at the rear of a badge.

Dave

Your badge looks fine to me. This phenomenon is seen sometimes on TF badges. It was due to changing one half of the die set, so that you only get a stamping on one side of the badge. Economics at the time meant it was cheaper to change one die rather than make both male and female different.

The only TF lincolns badges I've ever been convinced of have two lugs at the back and no slider ... body shape isn't the usual two repro types you get, but my gut feeling is it's a repro.

I suspect it's a genuine badge but very expertly erased.

I would agree with Alan, I think someone's had a go with some chasing punches.

I've got a genuine Lambourne example which has a slider! I think the badge posed at the start of the thread is genuine, but may have started life sporting EGYPT on it's plinth?

You can see the outline of the letters still from the front and so they have been erased from a badge made using regular dies. They have then chased surface giving the better appearance rather than the ground erased ones. Some of the erased ones are perhaps genuine theatre conversions.

I like the Sphinx shape and large tabs from the GM to the WM. I have also seen sliders on genuine Lincs TF badges.

A keeper indeed, regards Dean.
