Default Yukon Regiment

The Yukon Regiment was a short lived infantry regt. located in Whitehorse from 1962 to 1968. There still is a cadet unit that still wears the Yukon badge and flashes.

Needless to say, a very cold posting...

Mike, what is the back of the cap badge like? (The cadets have had a couple of runs of badges made, and they are distinctively different from the militia pattern.)

The cadet badge has the slider with the ball, this badge is the early version with a short slider.

Yes, but there is also a cadet badge with lugs.

Hmm. The lugged badge I have is of very good quality. Perhaps there was more than one procurement of the badges?

Bill,
When I was in Whitehorse in the mid 70s the local jeweler had made a limited number of cap badges for the cadet corps and I picked one up from a fellow cadet (although the badge is long gone when I culled down my collecting interests). It was a very well made, thick badge that had a flat back (but stamped flat and not roughly cast flat) with lugs and I seem to remember it being somewhat convex.

Default Cadet issue cap badge

I think this is the example that Gary is talking about. Note the slightly domed shaping on the badge, and flat wire lugs.

That looks like it might have been made by Pressed Metal Products of Vancouver.

Brian, I agree with Phil, with one caveat. The cadet corps received the Yukon Regt insignia when they were reduced to nil strength and placed on the Supplementary Order of Battle. For a period of time, the militia badge was worn by the cadets.
Phil, that rings a bell, re the maker. Iirc, the person I purchased this from indicated they were PMP badges.
