Possibly a fantasy item, as I think the ORs badges were all Gm?

The Bedfordshire Yeomanry wore the 'Chicken in a Castle' badge for a very long time (until they amalgamated with the Herts Yeomanry in 1961) and can be found die cast, die struck, with blades, loops or a slider and in gm and Bim. At some point when they were an Artillery Field Regiment they wore the RA badge with their own collars. I'm not too sure about the lack of voids in the leg/tail area though on your example. I would like a gawk at the rear to make a better appraisal.

I've seen plenty mate and not one would convince me enough to add one to my own collection! Had there been a Bim version in wear post 1950 up to 1961, then there would almost certainly be an anodised version too! I'm pretty sure that this is a fantasy item that has drifted in to many good collections, although I'm always willing to be proven wrong! Andy |

Andy,
In the Smith & Harris book (1988), p.16., The Yeomanry Force at the 1911 Coronation, there is a photograph of an officer from The Bedfordshire Yeomanry wearing an embroidered cap badge on a blue backing and bim collars on parade dress. On page 31 of the same publication it states that at the Coronation, guilding metal cap badges were worn by OR's and officers wore an embroidered gold wire and castle in silver badge. There is a further photo on page 3 showing 'A' Sqn in parade dress but it is difficult to make out the metal types used on the collar. I'm planning to access the NAM collections to view items for Bedfordshire Yeomanry but that will not be until next year. In the meantime, if anyone knows of any photographic evidence of bi-metal badge wear on the collar or cap by this unit please show us here or alternatively you can private message me. Garry |

Garry,
officers certainly had S&G badges, but I seriously doubt a Bim ORs version exists? Andy |
