Default Punjab made 4th Indian Division flash

A hand worsted cloth patch of the 4th Indian Division stitched to a piece of cardboard, embellished with the "V for Victory sign" and "With best wishes for final victory" (4th Div. badge). I am quite sure Mike Jackson has posted one already, and I am wondering whether this should be considered as ordnance issue, like the printed canvas version or some sort of item to be purchased at NAAFI ... Surely is a war produced patch!

I quote from Howard Cole - Heraldry in War - "The badges worn in the Western Desert were the gift of the women of the Punjab at the instance of the late Sir Sikander Hyat Khan, Prime Minister of the Punjab, who visited the Division in the Middle East". Mike

There were given out in pairs attached to the card, I have examples for 4th and 5th Divisions, the latter has fixing hooks attached.

So the greedy seller has probably decided to spilt the pair in order to sell the two patches separately... great flashes by the way, Lee!

More likely that the soldier took one off to wear.

Default worsted 4th Division slip on

A nice addiction to my 4th Indian Division signs collection: a worsted epaulette slip on on khaki drill, and a couple of uncut printed on canvas Division signs: enjoy!
