Default New member from Holland

Hello everybody,

I'm Ivo from the Netherlands. I'm a history teacher and militaria collector. Starting at the age of 9 collecting Dutch capbadges. Now at the age of 29 I'm collecting British air/gliderborne for the most and lucky owner of a few special badges/insigne’s.
I'm very interested in your knowledge about how to recognise real from fake.

Pardon me for my bad English.

Hi Ivo, and welcome

To post pics to a topic, just click on the paper-clip icon ("Attachments"), about midway along the top of the message frame you get when writing a post. That'll give you the option to choose a picture on your computer to be uploaded and added to your post

Cheers

Colin

I've always wondered; what's the difference between "Holland" and "The Netherlands"?
And why "The Dutch"?

Colin,
The difference between Holland and The Netherlands is easy.
Holland is one of the old Duchies - now the provinces of North Holland and South Holland.
But the country - The Netherlands - is much larger than that. Compare that with saying Wales when you mean the whole of the UK.

Hi Ivo,

Welcome, there are a few more dutch guy's active here, and most collect the same stuff as you . You have come to the right place if you want to learn more.

Hope to see some pictures of your collection soon.

Collin, Holland and the Netherlands both mean the same thing "Low country" and although the Netherlands is larger then Holland, as Aad mentioned, it is not really much larger

Albert

Hello Ivo,
Don t worry for your english, I think that we are a lot of foreigners here. Where do you leave in Holland?
My uncle was parachuted with the 4th Sas in the region of the Assen 08.07.1944 to liberate Holland.
Friendly. Claude

Oh no, not yet another glider nutter from Holland!

Welcome aboard Ivo.

@ Colin, I seem to remember an episode from Blackadder about the Dutch who supposedly invaded the Netherlands.
