[QUOTE=Chrisr;288375]Further to the above post I here is the London Regiment list which includes the Bns and subsequent units post 1935-37 when they were transferred to other corps and regiments. As before please feel

18th Bn (London Irish) - KC BB 1908 -1937 Trans to RUR 1937
- KC WM 1937 - 1957???
- QC WM and S AA 1957 - present now D Coy London Regiment

The Blackened Brass Badge (pre 1908 - c. 1923)

Sealed Pattern Number (SPN) 617/1915 was allotted to this badge when the War Office assumed responsibility for supply from the Territorial Force Association [ data from the Bent & Parker order book p398 item 201]. This badge was re-sealed as SPN 9036 on 24/07/1916 [source WO 359 VOL. 16 p24]

The WM Badge (c. 1923 - c. 1958)

SPN 3796 sealed 16/05/1923 [WO359 Vol. 18 18 p65]. For a history of the change process see WO 32 /18635 or Jones Peter, The London Irish - All There In Black And White", The Bulletin of the Military Historical Society vol. 64, no. 253. Aug 2013 p 31-33.

The larger Tara Harp badge c. 1958 - current.

This is sealed pattern number 17362 sealed 06/03/1957 [ source List of Changes C 8303 of Sept. 1957].
Kipling & Kings state that a WM badge was sealed as well as the Anodized Silver but LoC 8303 only lists the Anodized Silver badge, although the WM exists.
The 110th meeting of the War Office Dress Committee held 13 May 1958 approved the design & evaluation of this badge (Source; March Chris, Anodised Aluminium: The No Bull Cap Badge of the British Army, p. 562.)
The design is based on on that used by Warrant Officers during WW 2 which was a Regimental or TFA supply, no WO Standard Pattern being known for the WO cast silver badge.

I believe that these modern beret badges were very unpopular but were worn circa TELIC 2 when the London Regt sent out a composite unit and they all wore berets.

Hi All,

My internet connection was down for a week, so apologies for not replying before now. Many thanks to all for the valuable information. Much appreciated. I will adjust the lists accordingly, noting a possible overlap of the BB and WM London Irish badges, and the beret badge.

Warm regards
Chris

The lists on page 2 (TF Bns and London Regt) amended today.

Just bumping up to see if anyone has any further amendments to the dates the various badges were worn.

Cheers
Chris

The Suffolk Regiment TF cap badge still being worn in the 4th Battalion in 1923 by the two men on the the right - neither of them Great War veterans.

The Essex Regiment
4th, 5th,6th and 7th Bn - BM as per regular badge with blank plinth and scroll beneath “South Africa 1900-02” 1908 - 1915

This has been discussed before and there is evidence for the scroll-less badge being common to all 4 bns and not just the 8th. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ighlight=essex

Chief Chum,

Many thanks. I have adjusted the 4th Bn Suffolk Regiment with a plus to denote it could have worn for a longer period.

Alan,

Thank you. I have added a post to discussion re an Essex SA scroll badge in the Turkish museum at Gaba Tepe.

Cheers
Chris
