FAP ex R&Q = For Administrative Purposes, except Rations and Quarters. (This means pay and paperwork support, just not feeding and housing.) Basically 1 CSWG was responsible for looking after him (likely because they were a formed unit in the South Pacific and had an administrative staff) but he was not part of the unit. That is why he doesn't show up in the nominal roll.
I found some information here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service...nce_Department) on Services Reconnaissance Department. Not the same as SOE's Force 136 it seems. The link found in the Reference section of the wikipedia page is very interesting and gives a good history of the Allied Intelligence Bureau (AIB). Part of a larger body of Australian military history all placed online.... more reading!!! Second World War history is at http://www.awm.gov.au/histories/volume.asp?conflict=2

See that this is an inactive thread, however just to verify, Cpt. Roger K. Cheng was part of SOE Force 136 in WW2. The information from Larry Wong of the CCMM is correct. The Australian parachute badge was received for his mission in Sarawak, Borneo. I cannot explain any discrepancies in the nominal roll or records. He is deceased & I am a direct descendant.

The para wing cannot be 3RAR as they didn't assume a para role until 1983.
The para wing is from the 1st Parachute Battalion and there is more info here 1st Parachute Battalion. There's quite a bit on the net. This lady, Ms. Ann Chen Jie Xue, has written a 300+ page book 'From China to Borneo and Beyond' which involves Capt Roger Cheng. More info on the book including photos Info on the book and photos. Records at the AWM may mention him. |
