MM Recipient
Not much to go on here, but an image found in the back of the AB64 paybook of 1489887 Gnr John Llewellyn Williams, 34 LAA Regt RA. He was awarded the MM in 1944. I'm interested in the officer at left - looks very US Army to me. Why should this be? Mike

Perhaps they were decorated with US medals?

Good point. If so, it was not recorded in Gnr Williams AB64 (unlike the awards of Africa Star and Eighth Army Clasp and the grant (odd term?) of the Military Medal. Mike

A search of the London Gazette brings up only the award of the MM to Sergeant Williams in 1943.

Many thanks - much appreciated. The relevant entry in his AB64 reads:
Granted the Military Medal. Auth - Appendix to Serial 168 MEGO List No 167 dtd 6 Aug 43 and MEF PTO 84/1 dtd 21 Sep 43. Comment. MEGO = Middle East General Order (?) and PTO (Part 2 Order (?). Mike |
