Interesting button that looks very similar to an early 1800s British naval button. I'd have a guess that it's an Irish naval button of the same period but don't know for definite!

Default Irish Button

It is possible that this is an Irish Sea Fencible button.

The Sea Fencibles were a naval militia established to provide a close-in line of defence and obstruct the operation of enemy shipping during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.

The British Admiralty formed its first Sea Fencible units in 1798, with units established along the English and Irish coasts. Twenty Sea Fencible units were established in Ireland and a network of Martello towers constructed to protect the Irish coastline. Officers came from the Royal Navy and the Fencibles were recruited from local seamen and fishermen. The Admiralty provided the Fencibles with uniforms and weapons. The Sea Fencibles were disbanded in 1802 following the Peace of Amiens but reformed in 1803.

The Sea Fencibles were finally disbanded in 1810. A variety of buttons have been identified as being worn by Sea Fencible and London River Fencible units but there is very little information available.

Default Sea Fencibles

Thanks for that, I had not previously heard of them. The collective knowledge of the forum is impressive.
