RCN Officer's Insignia, continued...SUPPLY Branch
To continue from my previous topics on the RCN Officer Insignia of the pre integration (1968) period....
http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=13073 http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=13802 As a review, a brief bit about RCN collar insignia -- Collar insignia appeared in the RCN when the post war Khaki uniforms were introduced in 1947. In addition to wearing shoulder boards, the officer wore, on the collars of his khaki shirt, brass rank insignia, they were attached by "clutch" fasteners. The collar insginia had the specialist branch colour between the gold bands same as the shoulder boards. Officers could also wear the collar insignia on the blue working shirt sometimes worn on board ship Illustrated below are the collar insignia for Officers of the Supply Branch. & I have also included a selection of Supply branch shoulder boards. RCN Officer's Insignia - INSTRUCTOR Branch
Illustrated below are the collar insignia for the Instructor branch...
This was a very small branch & thus their collar & shoulder board insignia are very rarely seen... as you can see I am missing Lieut Commander(I), & Commander(I).... |

RCN Officer's Insignia - ENGINEERING Branch
Illustrated below are the collar insignia for the Engineering branch...
The Engineering branch ws the second largest branch after the Executive {Deck, Weapons & Control} branch, & basically ran all of the machinery on board a ship. however, their particular insignia is hard to obtain & I have several gaps here.... |

RCN Officer's Insignia - CONSTRUCTOR Branch
Illustrated below are the collar insignia for the Constructor branch...
The Constructors were Shipwrights (wood & metal) & were responsible for anything to do with the structure & hull of the ship. Not a huge branch & their insignia too is hard to obtain, & as I get more, if I get more, I will add as well..... |

RCN Officer's Insignia - MEDICAL ADMIN & WARDMASTER Branch
Illustrated below are the collar insignia for the Medical Admin & Wardmaster branch...
This branch ran the hospitals in the RCN & included Medical Nurses, & any medical related specialty - ie: Radiographer, Physiotheraphist, Operating Room, Pharmacist, etc. Many of the Wardmasters were commissioned medical specialist ratings. Again, their insignia is somewhat rare & hard to find..... |

RCN Officer's Insignia - CIVIL ENGINEERING Branch
Illustrated below are two collar insignia for the Civil Engineeering branch,
but I m not 100% certain on this as these two insignia have obviously had their colours altered. Civil Engineering branch colour was the last to come into the RCN in the late 1950's (just prior to the abolishment of the branch colours) & their distinguishing colour was terra cotta(tan), so they are very rarely seen. These two collars are more pink in colour, so I am subject to correction here.... |

RCN Officer's Insignia - SPECIAL Branch
The last branch in the RCN was the Special branch & this was for specialist officers who did not fit into any of the previous branches,
ie: Photographic Officers, Bandmasters, P&RT Officers, etc Special branch colour was emerald green & these too are very rare. Illustrated below is the one collar insignia I have for the Special branch... (to be added later) |
